{"id":49,"date":"2025-03-29T11:03:25","date_gmt":"2025-03-29T11:03:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.familie-kleinman.nl\/brain\/?p=49"},"modified":"2025-03-29T18:28:14","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T18:28:14","slug":"reacher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.familie-kleinman.nl\/brain\/index.php\/2025\/03\/29\/reacher\/","title":{"rendered":"Reacher?!?!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\" data-start=\"314\" data-end=\"462\">Some of you might have already seen the category in the sidebar and thought: <em data-start=\"393\" data-end=\"405\">What the H*<\/em>LL is a &#8220;Reacher&#8221; category doing on this personal blog?!<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"464\" data-end=\"546\">Well\u2026 about six weeks ago, I made a decision \u2014 one that might just change my life. But before we get to <em data-start=\"569\" data-end=\"578\">Reacher<\/em>, let me give you some background first.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"620\" data-end=\"814\">Here\u2019s the obvious part: I&#8217;m overweight. To be completely honest, I started this journey with a BMI of 32 \u2014 which, according to standard BMI classifications, puts me in the &#8220;obese&#8221; category.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"620\" data-end=\"814\">I&#8217;m 1.92m tall, thats 6 foot 4 inches. ( 6&#8217;4&#8243; ). Jack Reacher is 6&#8217;5&#8243;, so I&#8217;m pretty close to his height. That is the first reference :-).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"620\" data-end=\"814\">And as I mentioned earlier, I started my journey a few weeks ago at <strong data-start=\"193\" data-end=\"205\">118.2 kg<\/strong> with <strong data-start=\"211\" data-end=\"227\">32% body fat<\/strong>. That\u2019s nowhere near the physical resemblance of Jack Reacher \u2014 who\u2019s muscular, lean, and built like a freight train.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"620\" data-end=\"814\">I think I\u2019ve started <strong data-start=\"196\" data-end=\"226\">397,288,973,247,982,394,78<\/strong> (give or take) different weight loss challenges over the years \u2014 and lost just as many of them. <em data-start=\"325\" data-end=\"332\">Oops.<\/em> \ud83d\ude05<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"160\" data-end=\"222\">Then, a few weeks ago, the pieces started to click into place. It began with a colleague at work \u2014 someone I hadn\u2019t seen in person for a few months \u2014 who had lost a <strong data-start=\"326\" data-end=\"342\">considerable<\/strong> amount of weight. Shortly after that, I ran into a fellow member of my community garden. (Yeah, I\u2019m into gardening too \u2014 next to all the tech stuff&#8230; weird, huh?) And <em data-start=\"515\" data-end=\"519\">he<\/em> had also dropped a serious amount of weight. Both told me how they did it, and basically it was only a very minor change in their eating habits, and it involved less carbs, more protein.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"160\" data-end=\"222\">I remembered a conversation I had with my cardiologist (<em data-start=\"251\" data-end=\"315\">no, nothing serious is wrong with me \u2014 it\u2019s just a precaution!<\/em>). She told me I needed to lose weight to stay healthy \u2014 and to do it <em data-start=\"387\" data-end=\"409\">before it\u2019s too late<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"566\" data-end=\"587\">That got me thinking.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"213\" data-end=\"364\">Then I came across an article about weight loss and the impact of sleep. And basically\u2026 my sleep routine was the exact opposite of what it should be. Instead of a steady rhythm, my sleep was all over the place \u2014 with one thing in common:<br data-start=\"453\" data-end=\"456\" \/>I was dealing with a chronic lack of high-quality rest.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"213\" data-end=\"364\">Then the final piece clicked into place. By chance, my wife had just started watching a new series called <em data-start=\"273\" data-end=\"282\">Reacher<\/em>. She put on the first episode right before I was about to go to bed \u2014 and, as usual\u2026 way too late. I watched it with her, and <em data-start=\"413\" data-end=\"421\">that\u2019s<\/em> when everything clicked.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"213\" data-end=\"364\">Yeah\u2026 it sounds corny, but I want to look like <em data-start=\"209\" data-end=\"215\">that<\/em> guy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"143\" data-end=\"203\"><strong data-start=\"143\" data-end=\"168\">So what did I change?<\/strong><br data-start=\"168\" data-end=\"171\" \/>And to be honest\u2026 not that much!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"292\" data-end=\"443\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"294\" data-end=\"443\">I now follow a consistent sleep routine \u2014 the same seven days a week.<br data-start=\"363\" data-end=\"366\" \/>I go to bed around 10:00 PM and wake up somewhere between 5:30 and 7:00 AM.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"445\" data-end=\"571\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"447\" data-end=\"571\">I eat fewer carbs and <em data-start=\"469\" data-end=\"476\">a lot<\/em> more protein!<br data-start=\"490\" data-end=\"493\" \/>I used to eat only ~50 grams of protein per day \u2014 now it\u2019s 150 to 200 grams.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"573\" data-end=\"670\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"575\" data-end=\"670\">I track my calories using an app\u2026<br data-start=\"608\" data-end=\"611\" \/>And yes, I weigh <em data-start=\"630\" data-end=\"642\">almost everything<\/em> with a scale. No guesswork.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"573\" data-end=\"670\">I skip all useless calories in drinks including all alcoholic beverages, so basically its water, tea and coffee ( caffeine! )<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"672\" data-end=\"720\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"674\" data-end=\"720\">I skip all snacks. (More on that in a minute.)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"722\" data-end=\"813\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"724\" data-end=\"813\">I changed my gym routine.<br data-start=\"749\" data-end=\"752\" \/>Instead of starting with cardio, I now <strong data-start=\"793\" data-end=\"800\">end<\/strong> with cardio.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"815\" data-end=\"929\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"817\" data-end=\"929\">More importantly: I <strong data-start=\"837\" data-end=\"854\">upped my game<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"855\" data-end=\"858\" \/>I train to failure \u2014 and if I can hit 10 reps, I increase the weight.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"931\" data-end=\"1000\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"933\" data-end=\"1000\">And last but not least: I started walking again a few times a week.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And that&#8217;s it!<\/p>\n<p>And about the snacks:<br data-start=\"372\" data-end=\"375\" \/>After two weeks of adjusting to this new rhythm \u2014 and tweaking my calorie intake a bit \u2014 I <em data-start=\"466\" data-end=\"473\">never<\/em> feel hungry. And yes, when I say <em data-start=\"509\" data-end=\"516\">never<\/em>, I really mean <strong data-start=\"532\" data-end=\"541\">never<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>And the <em data-start=\"185\" data-end=\"197\">not hungry<\/em> part?
