This morning I got downstairs, opened my laptop and checked out my Bluesky account. First symptom.. Bluesky loaded slowly, seemed DNS resolving was slow as well.
Tried to access my DNS / PiHole instance. Unreachable….
I decided to check my new Uptime Kuma console to verify network issues.
Huh, site unreachable too?!
Tried to ping my Proxmox host..
Huh, also down?!
I went upstairs to check upon Hammer. Powerbrick had a green light, Server had NO blue light.
Server is actually down?!
I pressed the powerbutton and Hammer started booting normally.
Then the logical question:
What happened in the first place and what is the root cause for this shutdown?
systemd-logind[1077]: Power key pressed short. systemd-logind[1077]: Powering off...
Did I, or someone, actually press the power button yesterday evening?!
The answer is, yes probably!
My guess is that I accidentally dropped laundry on the button yesterday or that a cat used the server as a stepping stone to a higher position.
logind.conf
Never thought about this, and thanks to ChatGPT for the suggestion. I disabled most button press handles. Problem solved.
This issue was new for me. Normally the server is hidden away in a cupboard, a shelf, or some other hard to reach place. Now itβs easily accessible β not only for me, but unfortunately also for our 4-legged friends.
Another lesson learned.
hammer.home.lan is up and running again, just as it should.
